The Widest Depths

The sun calls hands over water
With bones burnt from reaching
The wind draws eyes over land
A soul etched from searching

Shadow lands were never darker
Or earthen storms more wild
Nor heat of day more blinding
Than heart of the she-child

Cruel dunes dance in tired rhythm
Sand makes mountains cower
The waters of the earth cry out
One great voice of power

Waiting in the deserts bosom
Torn by warring sun
She-child crying on and on
Counting scars one-by-one

This tree will groan a dying song
While she is kept beside
All of time means nothing here
Where world and child collide

No one hears, she is not there
Her words are born of pain
Not-there eyes seek not-there sights
Of old souls lost in rain

He came from beyond the water
From over all the earth
Called by all her widest depths
And finding child in birth

She calls from all her widest depths
Reaching for her brother
Her cries are lost in wild winds
One life bound to another
