Awake

Today I watched the sun explode
With lightening in my eyes
Amazing all the things we dream
Sleeping under foreign skies

Dreams and fear broke night and day
When sorrow broke the dawn
What there was to throw away
Is now everything that's gone

I dreamed I gave my heart away
I fear I dreamed too long
For dreaming led to dancing
And turned darkness into song

I dreamed I hated all my fears
And hidden in my soul
Was anger born of bitterness
In what I'd come to know

I dreamed I lost all I held true
Silence screamed when left alone
I dreamed I'd given up to die
For all I could not hold

I dreamed that I could burn a bridge
With the fire on my tongue
The world lay blackened at my feet
With nowhere left to run

I dreamed a warrior came to me
But passed without a word
The need for strength still stands
So I must wield his sword

"Cowards all! I cry you flee!"
My dreaming voice called wide
"Leave your battles here beside
Let me suffer for your lies"

I dreamed my heart was torn and wild
Let loose for anger's sake
Here it was my mind was lost
When I found I was awake.
